yesterday.

i get a call at about 6pm saying my sister fell out of her kitchen window and was in the hospital. some old man found her and helped her call mom, that she was cut up pretty badly, and that an ambulance had taken my sis away.

that will put a different slant on your evening.

she lives in an old victorian house cut up into apartments in a historic district, and her kitchen window is not too high off the ground...but then there's a second one, above the fridge, and if it were that one...different physics involved. plummet.

so i call my mom as i drive home from work and all she says is, "i'll call you back, the doctor just came out," and she hangs up. so now i'm a little freaked out by this...and it's three hours later before i get ahold of my ma.

turns out they just went back to my sister's apartment where, ma said, "well, there's blood and glass all over the floor...and outside, too. we just walked in. (sigh) we got burritos."

say what?

oh, ma couldn't call earlier from the hospital and was driving at night and didn't want to call, and they were starving so they went to urban burrito (awesome) and my sister only had some bandages and didn't even get any good painkillers. turns out she was trying to change the screen in one of these old-style windows and it shattered. she pitched halfway out, then lurched back and landed hard, all cut up and stunned on the linoleum. some old man heard her screaming, came inside, and was wrapping her cuts with towels, and when my sis said she was going to faint, they called for the ambulance.

so, technically, she did not defenestrate (but i got to use the word, at least) since she did not go out the window.

so, how was your evening?

Wednesday, June 13, 2007

Screaming Skullz and Inflicted Religion

this is a few weeks back, but i went to the american indian museum in dc for the first time.
